2. Get Recent Copies of your Credit Reports There are three major credit reporting agencies that you will need to obtain a credit report from in order to begin the dispute process. The three major credit bureaus are Experian, Trans Union and Equifax. The reason you need all three credit bureau reports is that not all credit reporting agencies contain the same information.
Your creditors may report to one, two or all three of the major credit bureaus. Each of your credit reports may contain different information. Whether you embark upon do-it-yourself credit repair or utilize a professional service, you will need all three of your credit reports. Keep in mind each credit report from each credit bureau may contain different information; therefore, you must get all three credit reports.
1. Request your credit reports directly from the credit bureaus via telephone or online. The cost of ordering your credit reports will be different for each credit bureau.
2. In accordance with the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (Fact Act), you are entitled to a free credit report every 12 months from the three major credit reporting agencies. You may order your credit reports online from Equifax, Experian and Transunion at Annualcreditreport. com. Annualcreditreport also offers options to request your credit reports by U.S. mail.
3. If you are denied credit, insurance or employment in the last 60 days you are entitled to a free copy of your credit report from the credit reporting agency listed on your denial letter.
